Chair of the South Australian Chapter of HAL, Louis Leventis, has thanked those who attended the HAL SA Chapter drinks reception held at the Conference Room of the Chief Justice of South Australia, the Hon. Chris Kourakis, on 2 November 2017.
The Chief Justice is the national Patron and the South Australian Patron of HAL.
It was a great pleasure to share experiences and spend time together to reflect on the year, and discuss the journey ahead.
The Hellenic Australian Lawyers Association is privileged to have eminent jurists as Patrons representing each HAL Chapter.

We are honoured to have as Patrons Chief Justice Blow (Tasmanian Chapter), Chief Justice Grant (Northern Territory), Chief Justice Kourakis (National and South Australia), Justice Kyrou (Victoria), Chief Justice Martin (Western Australia), Chief Justice Murrell (Australian Capital Territory), Justice Perry (New South Wales) and Justice Philippides (Queensland).
It has been a privilege to have these eminent jurists as speakers at many HAL events, as well as other eminent jurists and scholars.
The SA Chapter of the Hellenic Australian Lawyers Association held the 2017 John Perry Oration, featuring guest speaker The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG.
This followed the successful John Perry Orations in 2015 and 2016.
The Hon Michael Kirby spoke on the topic “Justice Perry and the beneficial interface between Australian and International Law”.
The Oration was held on 22 September 2017 at the Adelaide Pavilion, in the presence of the National Patron of the Association, The Hon. Chief Justice Chris Kourakis, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia, and many other HAL members and guests.
Plans are underway for the 2018 Perry Oration in the second half of 2018.
The SA Chapter of The Hellenic Lawyers Association held the 2016 John Perry Oration on 23 September 2016 at the Adelaide Pavilion, Cnr South Terrace and Peacock Road, Adelaide.
Guests included the National Patron of the Association, The Hon. Chief Justice Chris Kourakis, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia, with guest speaker Mr Michael Abbott AO, QC.
