I am currently in my penultimate year at La Trobe University, in Melbourne. In April 2015, I was shadowing James Samargis, Barrister. It was an exciting and rewarding opportunity for me to be working in Chambers alongside him. With James practising in the area of Intellectual Property, it provided me with a wealth of knowledge of patents, trademarks, copyright and design that I did not possess beforehand. This experience gave me invaluable insights in what a Barrister’s work involves. It also allowed me to understand the hard work invested in a case in order to achieve a desired outcome. Reading affidavits and complex legal pleadings has enabled me to grasp an idea of how to draft legal papers in the correct manner. This opportunity also allowed me to see the law in a practical sense that is not possible inside a classroom. Viewing the law being put into practice has been very enjoyable for me. My experience has given me insights into my hope to pursue my own career as a Barrister.
